I Found You - Lisa Jewell

You know, I still remember when Ralph’s Party was released and I put Lisa Jewell on my list to remember (with Marian Keyes). I can’t believe that was over 20 years ago now! She still has it, that ability to craft a good plot with characters you fall in love with, or at least like a lot, and where you laugh out loud and shed a tear.

I wasn’t quite blown away with I Found You though. I certainly enjoyed the book, although I found it a little hard to get into at first (I’m not sure why really, maybe I just couldn’t relate to anyone at first). I just didn’t really warm up to any of the characters really, not even Alice who on paper would be my BFF. The only character I actually really liked was Derry, Alice’s best friend. 

There was something a little too forced about the plot too, you don’t really know if it was trying to be a thriller, a mystery or a romance, and that kind of watered it all down a little. That said it all works quite well, even if you have to cringe a little at some of the stereotypes that are way too evident in the book! 

Quick summary: Alice finds a man sitting on the beach near her house, who has lost his memory and ended up there for some reason. They work on trying to work out who he is. In the meantime a woman called Lily waits for her new husband to come home from work... 

It’s a good read, but not great. I’m next up for the latest Lisa Jewell release at my local library so a review for that one should be forthcoming in the next week or so!
